Statistics Help

**Question: **Imagine you have a piece of string...... Edit

**Answer: **.(a)

Let c be the circumference of the basketball,

r₁ be the original radius of the basketball.

Therefore c = 2*pi*r

30=2*pi*r

This implies that r=30/(2*pi)

Now adding 24 inches,

r = (30+24)/(2*pi)

={30/(2*pi)} + {24/(2*pi)}

=r₁ + 3.8197 (approximately)

Therefore the required answer is 3.8197 inches.

2.(b).(i)

I just say that it will be much more than 3.8197 inches.

(ii).

Similar as above we see that, r = R₁ +24/(2*pi) = R₁ + 3.8197, where R₁ is the original radius of the earth.

Therefore in this case also 3.8197 is the answer.

(iii).

My guess, this is unbelievable. I have surprised after getting this answer.

But mathematically it is true.

Thus, although it is unbelievable but it is mathematically true.

(iv).

The same as in the case of basketball previous, will be happened if I did the same thing except with a marbel.

.(c).(i)

Let c be the circumference of the sphere.

Then the function as a radius of circumference is r(c).

Therefore the required formula for this case will be,

r(c) = c/(2*pi)

(ii).

Since r(c) = c/(2*pi),

dr/dc = i/(2*pi), is just a constant.

(iii).

Regardless of the starting circumference, a constant change in circumference will result in a constant change in the radius.

(iv).

r = (30+94)/(2*pi)

= {30/(2*pi)} + {94/(2*pi)}

=r₁ + 47/pi

=r₁ + 14.96 (approximately)

Therefore the required answer will be 14.96 (approximately).
