Answer: Hochstetter's frogs are primitive frogs native to New Zealand rainforests. They are a rare endemic frog species. They are threatened by predation from hedgehogs, rats and cats, habitat destruction and diseases like amphibian chytrid fungus. Their unique features contribute a lot to the global diversity and ecology as well. A change in the population of the amphibians indicate a change in surrounding ecology and environment. They existed since before dinosaurs but they have retained their ancient features that are way different from modern species. They have a unique feature; they have partial webbing between hind toes. They don't croak or go through any tadpole phase.



They are semi-aquatic and they stay near the streams. They prefer to take shelter beneath logs in cool shaded rainforest region or beneath rocks.  Edit
