Question: What is the Hochstetters frog's niche? Edit
Answer: Scientific name - Leiopelma hochstetteri
Hochstetter's frog is a rare endemic frog species that belongs to genus Leiopelma. Other species of this genus are extinct now. Hochstetter's frog is the only survivor of Leiopelma genus. These frogs are the most ancient of all existing living amphibian genera.
They are endemic to New Zealand with scattered population scattered around North Island. Their usual habitat is beside mountain streams.
They are rare and vulnerable though protected. The existence of these frogs is threatened by both mammalian predators like mustelids and rats, and chytrid fungus along with pollution and climatic change.
