**Using logarithms, evaluate each of the following :**

**(i) (5.26) ^{3} (ii) (0.078) ^{4}**

**Solution:**

(i) Let x = (5.26) ^{3}

=> log x = log (5.26) ^{3}

= 3 log 5.26 [log a ^{m} = m log a]

= 3 X 0.7210 = 2.1630

=> **x** = antilog 2.1630 = **145.5**

(ii) Let x = (0.078) ^{4}

=> log x = 4 log 0.078 = 4 X ‾2.8921

= ‾5.5684

=> x = antilog ‾5.5684

= **0.00003701**
