In a shooting competition, a boy was to receive 20 cents for hitting the "bull's eye" and had to pay 8 cents
for missing the "bull's eye". He tried 50 shots but received only 48 cents. How many times did he hit the "bull's eye" ?

Solution:

Let the boy hit the"bull's eye" x times.

Therefore, he misses the "bull's eye" (50 - x) times.

For hitting the "bull's eye", he receives 20 x cents and for missing the "bull's eye" he pays 8 (50 - x) cents.

According to the given statement,

20 x - 8 (50 - x) = 48

=> x = 16

Therefore, The boy hits the "bull's eye" 16 times.
