Find the remainder when x3 - 7x + 4 is divided by x - 1, x + 2 and 2x + 1
Solution: (i) Putting x = 1, in the given expression, we get remainder = 13 - 7 X 1 + 4 = - 2
Putting x = -2, we get
Remainder = (- 2)3 - 7(- 2) + 4 = - 8 + 14 + 4 = 10
(iii) Putting x = - 1/2, we get
Remainder = (- 1/2)3 - 7(- 1/2) + 4 = - 1/8 + 7/2 + 4 = (-1 + 28 + 32) / 8 = 59/8 = 7-3/8
